After completing a number of long independent travels Jason wanted to find a way to make travel pay. So in 1999 he found his first travel job, tour leading for Intrepid Travel. This was the beginning of a continuing process of developing from guide to tour designer to travel business professional. These skills are rounded out with a huge love of travel, training, and competing in the great outdoors.
In 2016 Jason starts a new tour endeavour that focuses on an annual trip to a different place in the world each year.
These trips will be bike rides that Jason wants to do and often be self guided, unsupported, or family orientated so that Jason's young family can join the tour. We've already ridden the Camino Trail in Spain, the wine regions of France, the islands of Japan and in 2020 will enjoy a pedal down the Danube River in Europe.
In 2004 Jason's founded Grasshopper Adventures to start to design and sell the tours that he wanted to work on. For the first few years it was a one man business with Jason doing everything from webdesign to guiding to bike mechanics.
Ten years later and Grasshopper had grown into Asia's leading specialist bicycle touring business with offices in six countries and more than 30,000 travellers having joined tours.
In search of a quieter life, Jason sold the business in 2014.
Jason worked as a tour leader for Australia's Intrepid Travel from 1999 until 2005. Over that time Jason worked throughout South East Asia, spent two years in China, and became something of a go to person who could fly at late notice to almost any country to lead a tour.
During the final two years at Intrepid Jason was the key tour leader for the cycling charity challenge tours that operated throughout Asia.
On solo travel expeditions Jason has completed a wide range of travels including cycling, hiking and other adventure holidays. These four trips are the major trips completed:
1995 - 6 month cycling in Scotland & Ireland
1998 - 8 months cycling around South East Asia
2001 - 3 months cycling around Japan
2002 - one month hiking 700km from Melbourne to Canberra along the Australian Alps Walking Track
